FAQs About Solvent Cement by kgplastochem what is the benefits of use solvent cement?

FAQs About Solvent Cement

1. How long should I wait after applying solvent cement before using the pipe?

You should leave the joint untouched for at least one hour for perfect bonding. The cement requires 5 minutes for good handling strength and 30 minutes to achieve strength up to 160 PSI for pipes up to 2 inches in diameter. For larger pipes, temperatures below 15°C, or higher pressure applications, a longer cure time is required.

2. How should I store solvent cement?

Solvent cement should be stored in a dry place in its original, properly closed container at a temperature between 2-40°C. If a container is partially emptied, it should be closed immediately to maintain its effectiveness.

3. What is the shelf life of pvc solvent cement?

The shelf life is 2 years from the date of manufacture when stored properly between 2-40°C.

4. What is the viscosity of upvc solvent cement?

Solvent cement has a low viscosity, with a viscosity range of 500-800 Cps at 25°C.

5. What is the hydrostatic burst strength of the cpvc solvent cement joint?

For a 2-inch pipe, the hydrostatic burst strength after 2 hours of curing at room temperature is greater than 700 PSI. The minimum requirement as per ASTM F493 is 400 PSI.

6. What are the available packing sizes?

package of solvent cement

Solvent cement is available in metal containers of the following sizes:

  • 50 ml
  • 118 ml
  • 237 ml
  • 473 ml
  • 946 ml

7. What precautions should I take while handling solvent cement?

  • Follow all industrial hygiene procedures when handling the product.
  • Wipe off excess cement after application.
  • Refer to the product data sheets and safety brochures for detailed handling precautions
